BREAKING: Islanders Recall Isaiah George; Will Debut Against Penguins
The New York Islanders have recalled Isaiah George from the Bridgeport Islanders. The move indicates that Alexander Romanov will not play tonight. He will miss his fifth game out of the last six. Mike Reilly remains sidelined for the contest as well. Samuel Bolduc saw himself waived and demoted after a bad game against the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
The Islanders drafted George, 20, in the fourth round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and immediately seemed like a steal at the time due to his high-level skating ability and ability to carry the puck at will. In his final season with the London Knights of the OHL, George scored six goals and 30 points in 68 games last year while serving as an alternate captain.
George then raised his level even higher for the playoffs, scoring four goals and 12 points in just 18 games. His upside is seen now as a solid top-four defenseman who can move the puck and use his smooth skating to his advantage.
George’s preseason continued his rise among Islanders’ prospects. He showed a strong ability to keep up with the NHLers for the second straight season while not looking too uncomfortable. He’s continued his momentum in Bridgeport; he has one goal and two points through four games.
George will likely skate alongside Grant Hutton to start on the third pair, with both receiving some sheltered minutes to avoid being overly exposed.
