The New York Islanders are off Tuesday after blowing a 3-0 lead Monday night to the Washington Capitals before losing 4-3 in overtime. It was the Islanders second blown lead in three games. For now, the loss has the Islanders on the outside looking in, as the Pittsburgh Penguins have one less game played, with both teams at 50 points.

NYI Hockey Now

After a red-hot start, the New York Islanders choked away a three-goal lead before losing in overtime to the Washington Capitals 4-3.

With 13:25 left to play in the second period, Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin put all of his 238 pounds into a hit on New York Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau, forcing him to leave the game before coming back.

There was no penalty called on Ovechkin, but New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert thought there should have been.

On Monday morning, Vancouver Canucks president of hockey operations Jim Rutherford spoke to the media to provide a status report on the team, as well as Bo Horvat’s contract situation.

As Ryan Pulock watched his longtime defensive partner Adam Pelech take the ice yet again Monday morning, he knew it meant a big step in the right direction as he and the New York Islanders eagerly await his return.
